basically, i'm an elderly dope fiend trapped in the body of a teenage girl. (i'm not really even a teenager anymore, i just like hunter thompson.) i like to talk, but i don't always like the things that i say. if you feed a terrorist or fund a terrorist, you are, in fact, a terrorist. PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE TERRORISTS. (nb: i am not a terrorist. i only hijack out of LOVE.)

raised by peas, thus i lean toward the sun, adopted by a band of luddite librarians, roamed the siberian plains, czechoslovakian streets and australian horizons before being shipped off to boarding school at the tender age of 804, where i discovered the internet, which came as a bit of a shock. quick, guess how much of that is true!

the journal is for fannish recs and rantings, no personal life stuff. mostly 'cause my personal life tends to be a) boring, b) silly, c)illegal or d) all of the above, and i don't want that weirdness on the net (that's what i've got facebook for!).

i do a lot of reading (books comics essays poems plays scripts fics [het slash gen rpf mpreg things-that-teeter-perilously-on-the-edge-of-incest {i'm looking at you, arrested development}]. i must have a line somewhere, i just haven't found it. oh, pedophilia! that's bad!) sometimes i write things. i have a tendency toward polyamoury for reasons that have to do with being young and indecisive. i just don't like people being left out! or something.

favourite writers: i like jack kerouac, but his poetic stream of consciousness often verges on that horrific proust hyper description, or that last chapter of ulysses. all of these are preferable to hemmingway or le carre, terse to the point of frustration, but who wants to pontificate like churchill? (me.) terry pratchett finds a pleasant medium, but intertextual references can weigh down the novel for we knowlessmen. i am going to name one of my kids after dashiell hammet, who kicks dumas' arse when it comes to action, but they are both topped by arturo perez-reverte, who in turn bows down to umberto eco. eco is the guy who fucking invented dan brown before the da vinci code was even a draft. pratchett's intertextual references pale in comparison to eco's, which tend to be in hebrew or aramaic. italo calvino is like eco's long lost brother, abandoned in a library and raised by tongueless monks. despite all this, my favourite author is an unknown american, churning out gloriously violent books underscored by hatred of jeb bush, like elmore leonard on acid, or hunter s thompson on meth. this man is tim dorsey, the man who contrived a speaker the size of a motel room, killing a guy using goat's head soup (a suprisingly underrated stones album, not a food stuff). long live serge, son of yosemite sam! or, in the words of the dorsey hisself: "woooo! beatle's room! wooooo! cuba libre!"

favourite music, in no particular order: arctic monkeys, fat freddie's drop, arcade fire, fall out boy, david bowie's early work, regina spektor's unpopular work, dresden dolls, dappled cities fly, soup dragons, foo fighters, polar bear, electric cities, gorillaz, fearless vampire killers, a weather, queen, oingo boingo, modest mouse, kings of convenience (aka the whitest guys alive) mozart, lupe fiasco, that all singing episode of buffy, count basie, gilbert and sullivan, jurrasic 5 (the only religiously diverse band who have both hustle and flow), curtis mayfeild, gnarls barkley, beastie boys, radiohead, led zeppelin, semigloss, the killers, pink floyd, justin timberlake when i'm drunk, evanescence when i'm maudlin, rolling stones when i'm hungover, jimi hendrix always and forever. in fact, most things somehow, just not the whiny-ass country or that soft rock shit of the 1980s. It's like the gods of good music, exhausted from their work in the 60's and 70's and saddened by the tragic deaths of lennon, janis and jimi, took a decade off, leaving the beegees, air supply, styx and the disintegrating michael jackson as some kind of cruel taunt. I do like new wave, electro, punk and post-punk, and man, this will just get circular like hell.
